PYONGYANG - The Korean Central News Agency (KCNA), the official news agency of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), issued an article on Thursday accusing the US of planning to hold joint military exercises with South Korean.

According to the KCNA, the exercise will "hurt the atmosphere of dialogue and aggravate the situation of the region" and increase the danger of war in the Korean peninsula.

The US intentionally strains the situation of the peninsula, going against the people's desire for dialogue and peace, the article said.

"The Korean people love peace, but they will never allow others to bring the danger of war to the peninsula through military exercise," the article said.

The article demanded that the US and South Korea cancel the drills, "deeply aware of the steadfast will of the DPRK army and people to strongly react to the exercise."

It was reported that the US and South Korea will again stage the Ulji Freedom Guardian joint military exercises from August 16-26.

The Panmunjom Mission of the Korean People's Army issued an open letter to US and South Korean authorities on August 7 to ask them cancel their plan to hold the joint military exercises.
