PANAMA CITY - The South Korean ship Hanjing Monaco spilt fuel after colliding with a floodgate in the Panama Canal, the Panama Canal Authority (ACP) said Tuesday.
The accident occurred when the ship collided with the Pedro Miguel floodgate when passing through it, resulting in the damage of the ship's fuel tank.
It is estimated that 35 barrels (5,561 liters) of fuel were collected.
The ACP also towed the ship to a safe zone where it is going to be repaired.
The Panamanian authorities said they are carrying out an investigation into the cause of the accident.
