Kim watches combined exercise of DPRK army

PYONGYANG - Kim Jong Il, leader of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), recently watched a combined military exercise, the country's official news agency KCNA reported Wednesday.

Kim Jong Il is supreme commander of the Korean People's Army (KPA) of the DPRK, general secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea and chairman of the National Defense Commission (NDC) of the DPRK.

The drill was carried out by the KPA's Large Combined Unit 567.

According to the KCNA, this exercise was conducted "at a high level."  The leader expressed great satisfaction after watching it.

Kim said the KPA had become "powerful revolutionary armed forces equipped with modern offensive and defensive means" which could firmly protect the socialism of the country.
