One student and one teacher fainted when fire officials arrived, and many others also showed symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning, local WMUR-TV reported.

Some of those being taken to hospital were not showing symptoms, but body checks found that they had higher than normal levels of carbon monoxide in their blood, WMUR-TV quoted officials as saying.

The building has been evacuated. Firefighters and ambulances have come to the scene for emergency response.

The school has about 280 students ranging from pre-kindergarten to eighth grade.
