PYONGYANG: The cabinet of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) called for a far-reaching plan to increase economic growth, the newspaper Minju Joson reported on Friday.

The cabinet made the proposal at a recent enlarged plenary meeting, calling for a landmark turn in people's standard of living and to give unprecedented momentum to the country's economic growth, according to the newspaper.

The DPRK's industrial production registered a year-on-year increase of  11 percent in 2009, with priorities given to such key economic sectors as light industry and agriculture, the report said.

The cabinet urged light industry factories to improve the quality of products and complete the production task unconditionally, while calling on the agriculture sector to increase food production and develop livestock and fruit products.

The DPRK government vowed to bring about a radical turn in improving people's standard of living in 2010.
