The alert covers the Caribbean area, the Bahia islands and the northern provinces of Atlantida, Cortes, Colon and Yoro, the Permanent Contingency Committee (Copeco) said.

In the coming three days, there would be a seasonal cold front in the country, accompanied by moderate to strong rains, according to the Honduran meteorology service.

The rainfall will accumulate to over 100 millimeters in 24 hours, mainly at the mountainous areas of Cortes, Atlantida and Colon, Copeco said.

Copeco also warned of high waves of between 6 to 8 feet (1.8 to 2.4 meter) in the Caribbean Sea and proposed that aid organizations be ready to provide emergency relief.
