WASHINGTON: All travelers from Nigeria, Yemen, Pakistan, Cuba, Iran, Sudan and Syria flying into the United States will be patted down and have carry-on luggage searched under new security procedures starting January 4, Politico reported on Sunday.

Politico quoted an unnamed senior Obama administration official as calling the new screening procedures "sustainable measures that are a significant enhancement of our security posture."
The seven countries include the four that the United States lists as "State Sponsors of Terrorism" as well as Nigeria, Pakistan and Yemen.
