LIMA -- Former Peruvian President Alberto Fujimori on Monday had a minute-long laughing fit during his trial when he heard that his former military aides used to spy on him through the keyhole.

Fujimori, extradited from Chile last September, faces trial for alleged atrocities committed during his 1990-2000 presidency, including two massacres in 1991 and 1992.

Fujimori had a laughing fit when his former aide-de-camp, colonel Miguel Bernal, on the witness stand, said he and other military aides to the president used to spy on him through the keyhole just before he was going to travel somewhere.

"We found out the place we would travel to by spying on him through the keyhole. If Fujimori was dressed in short sleeves, it was a hot zone. But if the clothing was thick, it meant the trip was to a cold zone," said Bernal.

Fujimori covered his face and breathed heavily after hearing the answer and was unable to contain his laughing fit.

Many people who were present at the hearing also laughed.

Meanwhile, Fujimori's lawyer Cesar Nakasaki denied that the former president receives night visits and has a portable computer or access to international telephone calls.
