SEOUL - South Korean Foreign Minister Yu Myung-hwan will visit Japan next week to seek closer bilateral ties with Tokyo, South Korean Foreign Ministry said on Saturday.

Yu Myung-hwan will meet with his Japanese counterpart Masahiko Komura on bilateral cooperation in economy, regional security, the nuclear issues on the Korean Peninsula and South Korean President Lee Myung-bak's scheduled summit with Japanese Prime Minister Yasuo Fukuda, during his visit from April 3 to 6, the ministry said.

During his visit to Japan, Yu will also attend an informal ministerial meeting called to prepare for the Group of Eight (G-8) summit. This year's G-8 summit will be held in Japan's northern island of Hokkaido in July. South Korean President Lee Myung-bak was expected to attend the summit as a special guest.
