Updated: 2008-03-02 21:01 DHAKA -- After three days of a passenger ferry capsized in the Buriganga River on the outskirts of Bangladesh's capital Dhaka, local people recovered seven more bodies from the down stream of the river Sunday, raising the death toll to 46, police said. On Thursday afternoon last week, the ferry capsized with around 150 passengers on board after being hit by a cargo loaded with sand. Rescuers recovered 39 bodies from the river on Thursday-Friday and the ferry was also pulled out from 45-feet (about 13.7 meters) deep water by a salvage ship. The inland shipping authorities declared that the rescue operation was over with salvage of the ferry. On Sunday, local people found those bodies. Among the bodies four were male, two female and one child. Witnesses said hundreds of people were still searching the accident spot to locate their missing relatives. |
