ISLAMABAD -- Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf is likely to lift the state of emergency in 48 hours, local TV channel DAWN NEWS reported on Wednesday.

In a "change of command" ceremony held in the garrison city of Rawalpindi, Musharraf, as Chief of Army Staff, handed over command of the army to Vice Chief of Army Staff General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani.

Musharraf will take oath as civilian president for the next 5-year term on Thursday. He is likely to make an announcement to lift the emergency after a oath-taking ceremony, said the report.

Musharraf on November 3 proclaimed a state of emergency and promulgated a provisional constitutional order, suspending the constitution. The then-Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry and some other judges were sacked on the same day.

The All Parties Democratic Movement (APDM), consisting of around 30 opposition parties, announced that they would likely boycott the upcoming general elections unless the government lifted the emergency and restored the sacked judges. The APDM plans to hold a meeting to chalk out a strategy for the forthcoming general elections on Thursday.
