Detroit air terminal shut for suspicious item

WASHINGTON - Authorities shut down a terminal at Detroit Metropolitan Airport on Thursday after finding a suspicious package, according to media reports.

Airport spokesman Michael Conway said the package was found on the third level of the McNamara Terminal in a place where deliveries are made, according to television station Local 4.

Authorities were evacuating people from a perimeter around the area, which includes a hotel, it said.

CNN identified it as a Northwest Airlines terminal.
