Bundesliga champions Bayern beat 10-man Werder Bremen 4-0 at Berlin's Olympic Stadium on Saturday to take the second step on the road to the treble with the Champions League final set to take place in Madrid on Saturday.

Goals from Dutch winger Arjen Robben, Croatian striker Ivica Olic, French midfielder Franck Ribery and midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger saw off Werder, who had captain Torsten Frings sent off for receiving a second yellow card.

Now Van Gaal says Inter coach Mourinho should take note of the high standard of football from his side in arguably its best display of the season.

"We produced an impressive performance against a very good team, it was perhaps one of our best games of the season," said Dutch coach Van Gaal.

"Our victory was well deserved. On Wednesday, we will start our preparations for the Champions League final.

"Jose will have to have seen that we can produce some good football."

Bayern are bidding for their first treble and, with the second hurdle cleared, defender Philipp Lahm says Munich's performance showed how important winning the domestic cup was as they prepare for Madrid.

"The result shows how important this game was to us," said Lahm.

"It has been nice to get the double but the treble would be better.

"We still have business to attend to but we certainly want to win the treble, that was clear to see today."

Former Bayern president Franz Beckenbauer, who captained and coached Germany to World Cup titles, said he was impressed by Bayern's three-goal second-half performance.

"It was a gala performance in the second half," said Beckenbauer. "We hinted at it in the first half but it is fantastic that the team did not drop its performance and continued to score goals.

"If someone had told me this would happen six months ago, I would have had him transferred to the mental hospital. It was a delight to watch this team."

Bayern boss Uli Hoeness said the German giants could now travel to Madrid to face Inter with nothing to lose.

"I am extremely proud of the team and of the whole club," said Hoeness as the team hunts its first Champions League title since 2001.

"The team is playing better than in 2001. The great thing is that we are playing with real mental strength.

"Now we have won the double, so we have nothing to lose in Madrid. We will do everything we can to make the impossible happen."
