More than 400 cubic meters of manganese nodules crushed through the wall of a warehouse of Fengyun Manganese Co., Ltd. and gushed into a nearby workshop where 35 people were working at 1:10 p.m. Saturday in Huayuan County, said a spokesman with the provincial work safety bureau.

Twenty nine workers were evacuated while six were buried, he added.

Rescuers had previously retrieved a body at around 9 p.m. Saturday.

The four missing people had very slim chance of survival, said rescuer Yang Guoqing.

The company was operating illegally as the county work safety supervision bureau had ordered it to halt production two days before the accident, the spokesman said.
