All local governments need to face up to their own "shames", says an article on www.eastday.com Excerpts:

It is a shame that Guangdong is home to both the poorest and the richest in the country, the Province's party head Wang Yang said in late March. He says his top priority is to narrow the income gap in the province.

It is true that development imbalance will lead to an income gap. But the fact that "some people get rich first" should not be an excuse for more people living in poverty. Some local governments' vanity projects have especially widened the income gap. All people are entitled to benefit from reform and opening up.

Hence it is very important for local governments to find out their own "shame", such as economic underdevelopment, people living in poverty or people living without dignity. Only after they feel the shame can they serve the people better.
