Kunming city in Yunnan province has put more than 10 billion yuan ($1.6 billion) into water conservancy since 2011, according to Kunming Daily.

Chu Ruming, head of the Kunming water authority, explained that the amount of money invested in water conservancy from 2011 to 2015 was double that of 1996 to 2000. The authority has built 28 reservoirs in the last three years, increasing the city's storage capacity by 161 million cubic meters.

The authority also carried out draught fighting and irrigation construction in nearly 200 underdeveloped villages, accounting for 64 percent of the total number of 308 underdeveloped villages.

As of now, the city has 818 reservoirs with a 2.79 billion cubic meters' storage capacity.
