The Institute of Medical Biology at the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences, founded in 1958, is a comprehensive institute that integrates biological and medical research with biological product development and production, and postgraduate education.

The institute mainly conducts research into medical virology, immunology, molecular biology, medical genetics, molecular epidemiology, and laboratory animal experiment techniques. Additionally, it runs the large scale production of vaccine and immunological products for serious infectious diseases and genetic engineering products.

The institute is the largest development and production base in China for the oral poliovirus vaccine and a series of hepatitis A vaccines. It has made a great contribution to the control of poliomyelitis and hepatitis A in China.
