Meng Jianzhu, head of the Commission for Political and Legal Affairs of the CPC Central Committee, meets with good Samaritans and their families in Beijing on April 24. Those heroes took righteous action in the face of injustice or save lives in spite of danger.

Meng said at the meeting that China should foster an environment of respect for heroic characters and their courageous conduct, which is believed can contribute to realizing the Chinese dream of great national rejuvenation.

He paid high tribute to the heroes and models who won honor at the commendation conference held later that day, saying that they emerged from ordinary people and are role models worth learning for all Chinese people.

The honorees come from different places and work in various professions, but they made the same noble choices to fight against criminals, heal the wounded or rescue the dying, Meng added.

He also said that these acts of kindness showed us the power of human warmth, the strong sense of social responsibility and justice, which are values emphasized in the traditional virtues of the Chinese nation.

Moreover, Meng pointed out that government should provide support to the establishment of a sound social environment that can motivate more people to take courageous action. Speeding up the relevant law-making process and more government policy support are needed, he added.
