Li Shaoping, vice president of the Supreme People’s Court, collected opinions on improvement of the work of the courts from National People's Congress (NPC) deputies and Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) National Committee members in Sichuan on Feb 25, at a seminar chaired by Wang Haiping, head of the Sichuan Provincial Higher People’s Court.

He also issued plans for the SPC’s work in 2016.

The NPC deputies and CPPCC members spoke highly of the achievements made by people’s courts in recent years, especially this past year.

They also offered suggestions on the work of the courts in areas such as development of judicial personnel, judicial reform, an improved guarantee system for judges and stability of judicial teams in China’s western region, especially in remote underdeveloped areas home to minority nationalities.

They advised the courts to organize educational activities to enhance legal awareness and to improve procedures for dispute resolution. They further urged a strengthening of judgment in commercial affairs including cases related to intellectual property rights.

The judging of criminal cases, including bribery, embezzlement, and drug-related crimes should be reinforced and a special campaign to crack down on disregard for judgment enforcement or rulings should be carried out, they noted.

Li conveyed his sincere gratitude to the NPC deputies and CPPCC members for their support of the courts’ work and said that their opinions and suggestions would be submitted to the leading Party group of the SPC as good points of reference for China’s judicial reform.
