Meng Jianzhu, a member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and head of the CPLA, CPC Central Committee, held a symposium to seek advice about the judicial reform from 20 senior journalists from State media and news agencies in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Shenzhen, during his investigative tour of South China’s Guangdong province on Jan 14.

“The province is at the forefront of China’s reform and opening-up, and its development of media ranks among the top nationwide. Meanwhile, as a pilot area, it has had initial success in judicial reform,” Meng said in his opening speech.

He said that the judicial reform could not be carried out without the support and participation of news media, which can help publicize the formulation, issuance and implementation of reform plans and win understanding and support from society.

The implementation, in particular, requires supervision as well from the media circle, Meng added.

This was the third symposium hosted by Meng in 2016, following two think-tank forums attended by leading lawyers and legal experts in China earlier this month.
