Shanxi reaps revenue from tourism growth

Shanxi’s tourism industry has gained momentum thanks to increased promotion and more diversified products.

Tourism revenue in Shanxi province reached 134.93 billion yuan ($21.6 billion) in the first three quarters of 2012, a 36.35 percent year-on-year growth. The amount is 5.86 percent higher than the growth rate in the same period last year, according to data revealed by the Shanxi Provincial Bureau of Statistics on Oct 30, Shanxi Evening News reported.

In the first three quarters, domestic travelers totaled 145.98 million; they brought in 131.35 billion yuan in revenue, a year-on-year growth of 30 percent and 36.68 percent, respectively. Tourists from outside the Chinese mainland in the same period totaled 1.45 million; they brought in revenue of 552.14 million dollars, a 23.85 percent and 39.11 percent year-on-year increase, respectively.
