TAIYUAN - Death toll from a construction accident Thursday morning in North China's Shanxi province rose to seven after one seriously injured man died in hospital, local authorities said.

Nine men were working 20 meters above the ground on a scaffolding when it collapsed at around 8:30 am in the scenic spot of Mianshan Mountain, Jiexiu City. Six of them died instantly from the fall, the Jiexiu municipal government said in a statement.

The other two people were in stable conditions though one of them remained critically injured, the statement said.

An investigation into the cause of the accident is underway.
