An online training course on Chinese paper-cutting and sachet making was launched by the China Cultural Center in Seoul on April 18. The class shared the meaning and cultural background of paper-cutting and sachet, and taught how to make both.

People can access the class on the center's official website and its accounts on WeChat, Facebook and YouTube.

Setting up a series of themed activities on female culture, the center originally arranged art salons, lectures and film shows about Chinese and South Korean women around International Women's Day on March 8. Due to the COVID-19 outbreak, the events were cancelled but have found their way on the internet for the convenience of local people to experience Chinese culture at home.

As both paper-cutting and sachets serve similar historical functions, expulsing evil spirits and praying for happiness, the event aimed to encourage people to cooperate and fight the epidemic together.

Two intangible culture heritage inheritors, Li Jinbo and Bian Chengfei were invited to give the online training. Li is an inheritor of Gaomi paper-cutting and Bian an artist specializing in Fei county embroidery, an intangible cultural heritage in Shandong province.

In upcoming days, the center will launch online events to share thangka paining and Peking Opera "San Cha Kou" (Divergence).
