The Shandong provincial government announced its five year plan to promote cyberculture construction in the province's rural areas on May 11.

Shandong aims to make life for its citizens who live in rural areas more convenient by improving the general networking infrastructure and providing online services such as rural digital libraries, rural remote education centers, and rural network service centers.

The provincial government will promote the implementation of mobile internet and new media in rural areas, thus raising rural residents' internet application levels. It will do this by improving internet services and educating people who live in rural areas about new technologies.

According to the project plan, Shandong will encourage the creation of network literary works, including net literature, net music and net drama which reflect Shandong rural culture and farmers' lives. These artistic works will be showcased on online media sites and professional literature and art websites. By using Weibo, WeChat and video sharing apps, outstanding rural artistic works will be promoted in multi platforms and multi terminals.

Additionally in the next five years, attention will be given to disadvantaged and impoverished people living in rural areas through innovative public welfare projects, which will be promoted through websites, online platforms such as Weibo and Wechat, and mobile phone news applications.
