Yantai's apple export contributes country's one fourth

Yantai apples, a specialty product in Yantai, Shandong province have been exported to over 60 countries and regions with annual export volume of 600,000 tons, accounting for one fourth of the country's total apple exports, according to statistics of Yantai agriculture bureau.

With over 140 years of development, Yantai apples have become a highlight of Yantai. Featuring bright color and sweet taste, Yantai apples are known far and wide.

In 2014, the apple planting area in Yantai covered 2.72 million mu (181,333 hectares), with an annual output of 4.23 million tons. The value reached 14.4 billion yuan ($2.27 billion). Each year about 600,000 tons of apples are being exported to places like Southeast Asia, Russia, Australia and European Union.

And since 2001, Yantai has made promoting Yantai Apple a high priority. The brand "Yantai Apple" has reached a value of 10.59 billion yuan, leading China's fruit industry for seven consecutive years.
