Amazon builds 8th logistics base in China

NANJING - Amazon.com, Inc, a US-based e-commerce operator, will establish its eighth logistics base in East China's Jiangsu province, local authorities said Monday.

The 100,000-square-meter base is located in the Kunshan Huaqiao Economic Development Zone in the city of Kunshan, sources with the Kunshan government said.

The two warehouses will be put into use in July and September, respectively.

"All the online orders in the Yangtze River Delta region will be dealt with and delivered from the newly built logistics center in Kunshan upon its completion in July," said a source close to the center, adding that delivery time will be shortened to half a day as a result.

Upon completion, the logistics base will be the largest among those already in operation in China.

Amazon has so far established seven logistics bases in several Chinese cities, including Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Suzhou, to offer millions of goods to consumers, including electronic products, daily necessities and automobile goods.

Kunshan Huaqiao Economic Zone was chosen from many other Chinese sites for its economically important location in the Yangtze River Delta region and its vigorous efforts in developing the local service industry.
