The Huaqiao Farmland Construction Project received an inspection from top officials October 31 to oversee its progress. Ji Wenlin, member of the Party Committee and Director of the Office of the State Ministry of Land and Resources and Chang Xiaming, Director of the Provincial Department of Land and Resources, visited the site of the Farmland Construction Project.
Ren Xueyuan, member of the Standing Committee and Director of the Management Committee of Huaqiao Economic Development Zone, together with Su Fenrong and Cheng Rongwen, Deputy Directors of the Management Committee of Huaqiao, received Ji and his delegates and delivered reports on the project.
The Huaqiao Farmland Construction Project is being carried out by persuading residents of the basic farmland protection area to migrate to cities and towns so comprehensive improvements can be conducted to the land, water, roads, forests and villages. The goal is to build the area into a large-scale, contiguous and high standard farmland system project, according to the management office of the Huaqiao Economic Development Zone.
Tianfu and Xinhu villages are basic farmland protection areas in Huaqiao, with a total area of 9,800 mu. They have 67 natural villages and 1,013 peasant households, with an 820 mu-construction area of housing sites.
Through demolishing housing sites and comprehensively improving the land, water, roads, forests and villages in the area, a reasonably laid-out agro-ecological zone has been constructed. The construction land index has increased by 963.4 mu since the project began, the management office of the Huaqiao Economic Development Zone said.
Ji acknowledged the work done by Huaqiao, especially the fact that peasants are able to maintain relatively affluent living conditions after the consolidation of the land in the area. The Economic Zone should be people-oriented and effectively protect the interests of the masses and achieve a win-win situation between protecting the farmland and guaranteeing development, thus providing more experiences for the country’s land management work, he said.
Ji and his delegates also inspected construction of the Zone and its modern service industry development.
