During a "green development" press conference on March 7, Hebei Iron and Steel Group reported their exploration and practices in green development.

"The iron and steel industry, as a resource-intensive pillar industry in China, has to deal with the issue of transformation, upgrading and green development to realize healthy and sustainable development," said Peng Zhaofeng, general manager of HBIS.

HBIS has invested 17.5 billion yuan ($2.85 billion) in environmental protection and energy conservation. HBIS also retired unhealthy and backwards manufacturing equipment in 2010, replacing machinery with an automated energy-saving steel-making system.

HBIS owns first-class manufacturing machines in all kinds of varieties. They have large-scale capacity, conserve energy and protect the environment. Their products adopt advanced technology and lead the industry nationwide, especially the X80 and X90 pipeline steel and DP steel.

In the next three years, HBIS will strive to achieve a higher environmental standard, realizing zero water discharge and zero waste.

HBIS was established in June 2008 by Tangshan Iron and Steel Group and Handan Iron and Steel Group. With 5,000-ton production capacity, it is one of the largest iron and steel companies in China.
