The Guiyang forest public security bureau said on Wednesday that they have cleared up 132 cases concerning deforestation in the first half of the year, with a detection rate of 91.01 percent.

For Guiyang, protecting forest resources is key to maintaining ecological security. It is part of the city’s efforts to become a demonstration city of ecological civilization.

A criminal detection team was founded on September 17 last year to crackdown on deforestation crimes, according to the forest public security bureau.

While fighting deforestation, the bureau dealt with 168 criminals in accordance with the law and confiscated over 35.06 cubic meters of wood, issuing penalties worth 1.08 million yuan ($176,000).
