Guizhou recently launched a network integration experiment in two residential communities in Guiyang. Residents in the two communities can now receive integrated IPTV, Internet-based cable TV and multimedia telecommunication services for free, Xinhua reported.
The remarkable improvement of information network facilities is based on the premise of integration. The total length of optical fiber in Guizhou has reached 347,000 kilometers, and digital TV coverage rate reaches 87.5 percent. Also, the IPTV subscription service in the province has begun.
The two experimental residential communities are Jinyang New World and Bihai Zhongtian Shanshui Garden. The experiment seeks to cultivate market demand by testing the IPTV and mobile TV control platform, broadcasting and TV monitoring platform, and the Internet information security technology monitoring platform. It also hopes to test the carrying capacity of broadcast, TV and telecommunication networks for integration purposes.
Guizhou now has 600,000 mobile TV subscribers and 200,000 HD digital TV subscribers, said Wang Jiangping, the general director of the Guizhou Economy and Information Technology Commission.
Meanwhile, some information enterprises have pushed for research and development of products that are fit for integration and have made some initial achievement in the fields of Internet TV, multimedia terminals and 3G mobile phones.
In the first 10 months of this year, the output value of the three-network-integration industry in Guizhou has amounted to nearly 2 billion yuan ($320.4 million), said the Guizhou Economy and Information Technology Commission.
