Kweichow Moutai to invest $1b in seven major projects

A proposal for an investment of 6.3 billion yuan ($1 billion) in seven projects was passed at the general meeting of Kweichow Moutai Company on Nov 26.

A portion of the investment, 4.1 billion yuan, will go towards first phase construction of a technical innovation project, as well as supporting facilities, in Maotao village. The project will increase Moutai’s annual production capacity for distiller's yeast by 5,800 tons.

The remaining investment will be put into six other major projects, including a Moutai technical demonstration districtin Tanchang Industrial Park, a road construction project in Huairen and Moutai industrial parks, a Moutai Planning Exhibition Center, Moutai Technical Building and Appreciation Center for Moutai Liquor, and a technical renovation project with supporting facilities.The renovation project aim to increase production capacity of Moutai's Koji-producing unit by 4,000 tons.

The projects are expected to finish by the end of January 2015.

The technical innovation project and the construction project for support facilities play an essential role in Moutai liquor production.

The investment, which is expected to pay off in seven years, is estimated to increase Moutai's annual revenue to 6.5 billion yuan, with annual profit of 4.1 billion yuan.
