Jinchengjiang devotes efforts to lift disabled out of poverty

Jinchengjiang district in Hechi has devoted great efforts to helping impoverished disabled people as part of its poverty alleviation efforts, benefiting a total of 2,463 people by offering services in areas spanning industry training, rehabilitation services, and preferential policies.

Tan Dezuo, a villager of Bagong town's Beixiang village in Jinchengjiang district, made more than 200,000 yuan ($28,571.77) in 2018 from selling chickens and ducks.

Tan has a level 4 disability, as well as a seriously ill wife and two sons with congenital level 2 disabilities. In 2016, he received a batch of chickens and ducks, as well as a 5,000 yuan as a poverty alleviation subsidy for the disabled to start businesses. With the help of 50,000 yuan in small poverty alleviation loans, Tan raised more than 1,000 chickens and ducks.

Starting from 2016, the district has offered free training on various practical agricultural techniques to 414 disabled people. It has also set up a poverty alleviation base, helping 840 households increase their incomes and supporting 63 households to start businesses.

The district has focused on the construction of a rehabilitation service system for the disabled to help them improve their self-care ability and upgrade their quality of life. In 2018, the district offered basic rehabilitation services for 571 disabled people and 49 children with disabilities, providing free auxiliary appliances for 100 disabled people, renovating homes for 56 disabled households, as well as offering home care services for 151 mentally or severely disabled people.

In addition, preferential policies are also available. Education subsidies have been given to 345 students in special education schools and 50 disabled students in vocational schools.

Hechi is located in the northwestern part of Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region and the southern foothills of the Yungui Plateau.
