A total of eight university student volunteers taught classes for 52 left-behind children in the rural area of the Jinchengjiang district in Hechi on Aug 3, the Hechi Daily reported.

The volunteers came from Beijing Jiaotong University, Beijing University of Chemical Technology, Xi'an International Studies University and Central China Normal University.

The classes covered painting, singing, dancing, fun English, manual training and safety education. The local left-behind children warmly welcomed and enjoyed the classes that they found interesting.

A total of 136 university students from Guangxi were divided into 17 teams, with each having eight members. Four teams came to Hechi's Jinchengjiang, Yizhou, Du'an and Bama for the week-long social practice. They offered help to the disabled, showed care for the elderly with empty-nest syndrome and the left-behind children and carried out grassroots research.

According to Nong Chenchen, a volunteer from Xi'an International Studies University, the class-teaching activity was part of a summer camp jointly supported by a number of Guangxi organizations based in Beijing such as Beijing's Guangxi Chamber of Commerce and Beijing's Guangxi College Student Union.
