Donglan county produced a total of 327.5 tons of 4A quality white stream filature in 2014. Its total industrial output value of silkworm processing reached 120 million yuan ($19.19 million) last year.

Donglan county, which is located in Hechi, Guangxi, was designated by the Ministry of Commerce of the People’s Republic of China as a base to implement the project which oversaw the moving of mulberry production from the east to west of the country in 2006. Since then, Donglan started to vigorously develop its silkworm industry.

The county energetically readjusted its silkworm industrial structure in 2014 by developing a characteristic planting and breeding industry and enhancing support towards leading enterprises. By the end of the year, the total area of Donglan’s mulberry fields covered 34,000 mu (2,266.67 hectares), spanning 11,220 households in 14 villages and towns. The county’s annual general income from silkworm breeding in the same year was 96.04 million yuan and the average income of a silkworm cultivation household was 8,560 yuan in 2014.

Thanks to its unique natural environment and climate, the quality and production rate of Donglan silk is high. During the city’s 13th Five-Year Plan, it plans to carry out the second construction stage of the Guangxi Donglan Huashen Silk Company and achieve a silkworm processing industrial output value of over 200 million yuan.
