The full-length documentary,The New Maritime Silk Road, launched by Guangxi and China Central Television (CCTV) was broadcast during the eleventh China-Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Expo on CCTV and Guangxi Television (GXTV) with English and Chinese subtitles. It is the first documentary on the theme of “Maritime Silk Road” in the 21st century.

Guangxi has participated in the development of “The New Maritime Silk Road” since President Xi Jinping put forward this strategic plan in October, 2013.

As one of the birthplaces of the ancient Silk Road, Guangxi is in the coastal region and at the junction of eastern, central and western China. It is also at the confluence of southern, southwestern and ASEAN economic circles with the cross-country passageway to ASEAN countries. Guangxi has taken advantage of its location to promote the economic cooperation with ASEAN countries and improve the development of the China-ASEAN part of “Maritime Silk Road”.

To better publicize the development plan in ASEAN countries, the Publicity Department of Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, Guangxi Administration of Radio, Film and Television, GXTV and CCTV spent less than half a year to finish shooting the documentary in high quality.

The documentary has received great attention and support from the Party Committee of Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, Guangxi Government and Publicity Department. Many leaders from Guangxi watched the samples and offered their suggestions.

The New Maritime Silk Road has three episodes, with each lasting 45 minutes. It shows the historical stories and contemporary development of the Silk Road.

The first episode,The Great Plan, presents the development potential of the project. The second episode,The Blue Legend, vividly depicts the history of the ancient Maritime Silk Road. The third episode,The Flying Fulcrum, shows the significant role of Guangxi in the project. The documentary is seen as very important in publicizing the project and promoting the development of the Maritime Silk Road in Guangxi.

Hechi is located in the northwestern part of Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region and the southern foothills of the Yungui Plateau.
