Li Bin holds medical rescue meeting for capsized passenger ship

Li Bin, minister of the National Health and Family Planning Commission, held an on-site meeting on medical rescue for the capsized Dongfangzhixing, or Eastern Star, at Jianli People's Hospital on June 2. Li listened to work reports from the Hubei health and family planning commission, the hospital and experts' team. She conveyed instructions from the State Council and deployed medical rescue work for the next stage.

A NHFPC command team will be established to work in the frontline. The team will be headed by Cui Li, vice minister of NHFPC. An official from the Hubei commission will act as deputy head of the team to strengthen medical rescue efforts. Second, field rescue efforts will be stepped up. All medical personnel in the field will stand by to offer treatment without delay and ensure fast and safe transfer of victims. Third, expert teams at the national and provincial level will be set up. Pertinent rescue plans will be made to help senior victims of drowning and underlying diseases. Victims at hospitals will be put under close observation and receive psychological counseling. Fourth, psychologists will be gathered to deal with possible trauma of certain victims. Efforts will also be made to take care of follow-up psychological intervention and rehabilitation work.
