Estonian president visits China's Silicon Valley

In her first-ever visit to China, Estonian President Kersti Kaljulaid visited Zhongguancun Science Park -- China's Silicon Valley -- on Sept 21 and praised the innovation hub's technological achievements.

The Estonian delegation was received by Zhai Lixin and Hou Yun, director and deputy director of the Zhongguancun administrative committee, respectively, in the exhibition center where they took a look at Zhongguancun's 40 years of development.

Representatives of ride-hailing platform Didi Chuxing introduced the company's global strategy, stressing its cooperation with Estonian transportation network company Taxify.

Smart phone maker Xiaomi elaborated on its plan to develop internet-connected home appliances while tech giant Baidu presented its breakthroughs in artificial intelligence, smart city development and unmanned driving.

The delegates were particularly interested in the achievements of Zhongguancun enterprises.

Zhongguancun Science Park did a great job exhibiting China's outstanding achievements in technology and innovation, according to Kaljulaid's notes in the guest book.

Kaljulaid also attended the Summer Davos Forum in Tianjin. "Relations between China and Estonia are at an all-time high," she wrote on her Twitter account during her visit, hoping that Estonia will strengthen cooperation with China in such areas as e-commerce, logistics, agriculture and culture.
