The relocation will set a good example for other qualified research institutes, as well as open a new page of in-depth cooperation between CAS, the municipal government and other related parties, said Zhang Tao, vice-president of CAS.

Xuan Hong, general manager of Zhongguancun Development Group (ZDG), acclaimed the relocation as a milestone in the municipality's nano industry.

After reporting on the latest construction progress, he promised that ZDG will shift its role from the project contractor to a service provider and create a comfortable living and work environment for the researchers from CAS.

The group will also make full use of its resources and probe into a pilot model for technology transfer.

Zhongguancun-headquartered enterprises, in particular, will seek cooperation opportunities with the nano institute and put its latest projects into practical application.

In addition, ZDG will set up a $44 million investment fund to support the nanoenergy institute in terms of R&D progress and technology transfer. A brand new incubation center will soon be in service, greatly shortening the distance from laboratories to markets.
