Zhongguancun artificial intelligent startup Horizon Robotics launched China's first-ever AI chip on Dec 20, integrating algorithm, chip and cloud technologies.
Two types of AI chips -- a Journey 1.0 processor for intelligent driving and a Sunrise 1.0 processor for intelligent cameras -- were self-developed by Horizon, applying the company's first generation BPU framework.
Yu Kai, founder and CEO of Horizon Robotics, said that "As opposed to commercial modes of general chips, the new chips are more focused on specific applications in difference scenes and collaboration with difference industries."

The Journey 1.0 processor can accurately and simultaneously monitor and recognize various objects including pedestrians, motor vehicles, non-motor vehicles, lane lines, traffic signs, and traffic lights. The Sunrise 1.0 processor can be widely used in commercial, security and many other practical scenarios as it is able to do large scale face recognition and structured video processing.
AI solutions featuring intelligent driving, smart cities and smart businesses were also released, all using the company's breakthroughs in arithmetical and chip technologies.
Yu Kai said that the company aims to apply its BPU to over 100 million Internet of Thing perception devices by 2020 and that some 30 million vehicles will install the Horizon self-driving BPU by 2050.
