Zhongguancun, a technology hub in Beijing's Haidian district, will help with the industrial upgrading in the Chinese capital, Tianjin and Hebei province, according to a meeting on July 11.

Based on the plan, Zhongguancun will undertake major projects, develop key technologies, and push for cross-regional cooperation in energy-saving projects as well as provide financial services for traditional industries such as steel, chemical production and construction materials.

Beijing, Tianjin and Hebei will set up a public environmental database, apply the latest technologies in air and water pollution prevention, disposal of solid waste and soil remediation, and promote new energy.

Connecting Zhongguancun to traditional companies in the three areas will lead to efficient communication and speed up industrial upgrading, said Chen Xing, a researcher at the Zhongguancun's administrative committee.

More than 1,500 high-tech companies in environmental protection and new energy, including many industrial leaders, have so far settled in Zhongguancun, with revenues for 2016 totalling 591.7 billion yuan ($87 billion).
