Chinese augmented reality pioneer Lenovo New Vision has announced a partnership with Austrian mobile AR tech company Wikitude to develop a groundbreaking new platform called the Augmented Human Cloud.

The two companies announced the deal during the Augmented World Expo, the world's largest AR and virtual reality event, which was held in Santa Clara, California in the US from May 31 to June 2.

The joint project will allow the companies to combine Wikitude's intelligent recognition engine with Lenovo New Vision's markerless SLAM technology, remote video application (Kepler), 3-D workflow (Titan), and deep learning recognition system (Martin).

The resulting platform, which the companies have dubbed the Augmented Human Cloud, will be compatible with Lenovo New Vision's C100 smart glasses and other smart devices, and will be capable of providing professionals with real-time on-the-job support. Wikitude has published a video demonstrating how the technology would work in practice.

The companies claim the new Industry 4.0 solution will use AR, artificial intelligence and big data to change the way people work.

"We're extremely looking forward to the partnership as it will create a fantastic proposition never before seen in this market," said Wikitude's CEO Martin Herdina.

Bai Yuli, vice president of Lenovo and general manager of Lenovo New Vision, also expressed his excitement about bringing total solutions like the Augmented Human Cloud to the market, disrupting traditional industries and bringing customers different, better solutions that add value to their businesses.

The Augmented Human Cloud will bring emerging technologies such as augmented reality, wearable computing and internet of things another step closer to the mainstream. The International Documentation Centre's IDC FutureScape: Worldwide IT Industry 2017 Predictions report forecasted these digital technologies would be fully mainstream by the mid-2020s.

The platform will integrate visual recognition, cloud storage, content editing and video communication capabilities, and will even enable users to dynamically edit their work processes, electronic manuals, product models and videos.

Wikitude and Lenovo New Vision plan initially to market the Augmented Human Cloud as a cost-saving solution for use in industrial maintenance, public security, and health care.

But the companies believe the solution will be suitable for use in a wide range of fields including intelligent command and dispatch, telemedicine, 3-D diagnosis and smart tourism, among others.
