The 2014 Zhongguancun Index released during the 2014 Zhongguancun Forum shows that Zhongguancun has accelerated its pace to "go global".

Enterprises there have expanded exports of their products, the amount of which reached 4.06 billion yuan last year, with a year-on-year growth of 16.7 percent.

A total of 2,155 patents were applied for under the Patent Cooperation Treaty, a rise of 44.7 percent from 2012. A total of 427 patents were collectively authorized by the European Union, the United States and Japan, an increase of 16.7 percent from the previous year.

Meanwhile, global high technologies are also making their way to China. Currently, 2,654 foreign experts work in firms in Zhongguancun Science Park, which accounted for nearly a quarter of the zone's total foreign staff, according to the report.

A total of 98 Fortune 500 firms, including Intel, Microsoft and Siemens, set up branches and research institutes in the park.

By the end of 2013, the zone had attracted 52 international innovation service institutes and industrial organizations and associations to the area.

Zhao Hong, a leading expert in the Beijing Fangdi Institute of Economic Development, noted that the world will embrace a new technology revolution, which provides a great chance for China to implement the strategy of innovation-driven development.

According to Zhao, Zhongguancun should make breakthroughs in reforms covering various fields including technology, science and society. It also should promote industry upgrading and build an advanced economic structure. What's more, Zhongguancun should follow the integrated development strategy of the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region and promote regional cooperation in different industries.
