"Yan Fengying" to be staged in National Grand Theater
Updated: 2010-09-17

The stage play "Yan Fengying" starred by famous Huangmei Opera singer Wu Qiong will be staged in the National Grand Theater from October 27 to 28.

This year marks the 80th birth anniversary of the late Huangmei opera star Yan Fengying. Yan was an extremely popular singer at the peak of her fame during the 1950s, but she died in 1968 at the age of 38. The stage play is to pay tribute to the legendary opera master.

As early as June 24 to 27, 2010, the play had already been staged in Beijing to commemorate Yan’s 80th birthday. Lots of audiences watched the play. During the performances, many viewers felt reluctant to leave when the play was over. Thunderous applause lasted long and long. Wu said "the encouragement from the viewers is the highest reward for the whole cast."

It is learned that the cast of "Yan Fengying" has modified the play based on the suggestions from audiences. The performance in the National Grand Theater will bring a new glamour to viewers.
