The fourth Huangshan Qixi Festival will be held in Tangkou town, Huangshan city on August 16. The festival, an important part of the fourteenth Chinese Huangshan International Tourism Festival running July 30 to August 18, will enrich Tangkou tourism culture and contribute to Chinese intangible cultural heritage sites.
The Feicui (Emerald) Valley, also known as the “Lovers’ Valley,” is situated at Shancha village of Tangkou town. Twenty years ago, a group of young people from Shanghai visited Huangshan Mountain. They came to the undeveloped Feicui Valley which looked very different from today. In the face of uneven and bumpy roads, the youths helped each other and at last overcame the difficult journey. On the journey, 10 out of 36 found their life partners in their travelling group, hence the name “Lover’s Valley.”
The Feicui Valley is also one of the major scenic spots of Huangshan. It serves as the shooting location of Ang Lee’s famous movie Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. There are more than 100 pools of different shapes and sizes, the water of which changes its color into all shades of green with the constant change of light.
Feicui Valley will embrace a series of activities for the festival. The TV program "Future Blind Date” will come to Feicui Valley to record its program. Twenty pairs of lovers will learn more about their partners by taking part in activities such as flying lover balloons, competing in a kissing contest and planting in the love garden. It is expected that romantic stories will once again appear in Feicui Valley.
In addition, the second Tangkou exhibition of calligraphy and paintings, Tangkou demonstration of tourism products and the opening ceremony of the “Love Paradise” photography contest will be held during the festival. But the most exciting event is the fourth Huangshan Qixi Festival Party and the eastern China final of Super Model of the World Cosmos Pageant, which will leave Feicui Valley a sleepless night.
It is expected that by holding the festival, Tangkou town will enhance its publicity and improve its tourism image, as part of the final goal of becoming a "first-class tourism destination and harmonious community.”
