Ways to beat allergies
(China Daily/Agencies)
Updated: 2009-10-28 10:52 Autumn is an ideal time for people who are allergic to pollen to prepare their immune system for the next allergy season, according to the monthly German magazine Naturarzt (Naturopath). The best preparation, it says, is to pay attention to what you eat. Naturarzt says that allergy sufferers should cut down on histamin-rich foods, such as tuna, mackerel, sausage, mushrooms and alcoholic beverages to relieve their immune system and metabolism. The magazine also advises doing largely without dairy products, which it says will lower "allergen pressure" on the immune system. The same goes for convenience food and food with additives. And allergy suffers should be aware of cross-allergies. Someone who is allergic to birch pollen, for example, is often hypersensitive to apples, pears, apricots and plums as well. |
