ATMs for the Bird's Nest

Cash-strapped tourists visiting the Olympic Park site have urged authorities to set up ATM machines in the area.

The Olympic Park administration committee this week promised to install machines following complaints from visitors claiming they had to walk more than 30 minutes to withdraw money.

The administration of exit and entry of Beijing public security bureau expects record numbers of tourists during this year's National holiday and most will flock to the Olympic Park.

Nanny watch thief jailed 10 years

A nanny who stole an 18,000 yuan designer watch from her employer was sentenced to 10 years jail and fined 10,000 yuan.

Chaoyang District People's Court said Li Min stole a watch when she was working at her employer's house near Beiyuan area on Feb 23. The court said she admitted to her crime when she was arrested seven days after she stole the watch but confessed she didn't know the watch was so expensive, reported the Beijing Times.

Police have warned residents to conduct background checks when hiring helpers.

Milkman dies in road crash

A speeding BMW 730 killed a 55-year-old milkman at the busy Puhuangyu road intersection yesterday.

One witness, surnamed Wang, said the BMW driver was a woman aged in her 20s, and said the car was traveling at high speed, the Legal Evening News reported.

It is still unclear whether the milkman, who was riding a loaded tricycle, was at the pedestrian crossing when he was hit. The accident is still under investigation.

The man was from Hebei and his relatives were expected to arrive in Beijing today.

Police arrest tomb raiders

Eight people were arrested on suspicion of allegedly robbing Qing Dynasty (1644-1911) ancient tombs in Daxing district earlier this year. The grave robbers disguised themselves as construction workers and raided six Qing Dynasty tombs allegedly stealing more than 60 beads, a porcelain vase, a snuff bottle, silver hair clips and others valuable artifacts, the Beijing Times reported. The Daxing District Procuratorate also called on police to arrest another suspect who also allegedly joined the gang but quit midway through the robbery.
