Naked Cowboy drops out of Mayor race

Busker Robert Burck has said that he is dropping out of the New York City Mayoral election because of the bureaucracy involved.

The Naked Cowboy of Times Square made his decision after being fined $250 (£150) by the Conflicts of Interest Board for failing to file a financial disclosure form, the New York Times reports.

Burke said: "I'm absolutely dropping out. What I want to do is stick with what I do best. It's probably why I look like a naked cowboy, and Mayor Bloomberg looks like a mayor.

"The only way to be taken seriously is to put on a suit and tie. Politics is not fun and games. It's serious stuff, and my mind was a little more dreamy."

When he announced his candidacy, the man famous for his white underwear had said: "No-one knows how to do more with less than yours truly, and that's the kind of thinking I plan on sharing with my fellow New Yorkers when you elect me."

A message on his official website read: "Naked Cowboy is very thankful for your support. He will continue to be the people's representative on MySpace, Twitter and Facebook."
