A court in Wuhan, Hubei province, on Monday exempted an insurance firm from paying the family of a man who died in a traffic accident while driving his vehicle under the influence of alcohol.

Li Ming died after he drove his car into a roadside tree last year.

Even though Li had purchased accidental insurance, the insurance company refused to pay his family, saying the deceased had violated traffic rules and insurance regulations by driving drunk.

The family had dragged the insurance firm to court demanding compensation of 50,000 yuan ($7,319).
