A court in Changchun, Jilin province, released a high school graduate charged with larceny on bail after he got admission in a university on Thursday.
The 19-year-old, who belongs to a poverty-stricken family, was captured red-handed trying to steal books from a library on July 5.
Just days later, he received a letter of admission from a local university.
After learning the student's story, a lawyer decided to argue his case, providing the court with a series of documents that proved an unblemished past.
The court released the boy on bail so that he could attend university.
