Retired US ship scuttled into artificial reef

Divers hover above the superstructure on the Gen. Hoyt S. Vandenberg artificial reef in the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary off Key West, Florida during a preview dive for journalists May 29, 2009. After a dramatic scuttling on May 27, the former transport ship in US Navy during WWII was opened to the public May 30. The Vandenberg is the second largest ship in the world to be intentionally sunk to create an artificial reef for sport divers and anglers. Sunk in May 2006, the Oriskany, an Essex-class aircraft carriers in US navy, is the world's largest artificial reef. [Agencies]
